EMU IEEE Robotics Team Wins The “Robotex International” Competition

Initially founded by important scientists of the era such as Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Edison, today the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has more than 430 thousand members in 160 different countries. IEEE’s Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Student Branch won the “Robotex International Competition” which took place between the 28th of November and the 1st of December 2019 in Estonia’s capital of Tallinn.


Supervised by EMU Faculty of Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department Chair Prof. Dr. Hasan Demirel, EMU Electrical and Electronic, Mechatronics and Industrial Engineering students Farhang Naderi, Zeynep Soylu, Mossab Hamdi and Harun Tuna competed for the team titled “EMU Crows” with their robot and drone (developed at EMU) in the categories of “Mind Control” and “Drone Race”.
“Robotex International 2019” is known as the world’s largest robotics competition. It featured 3000 competitors from 11 different countries who were successful in regional competitions. Indicating that the EMU IEEE Student Branch Robotics Team came first in the Mind Control category of 2018’s competition Prof. Dr. Demirel stated that they are proud to reveal that they finished first in this category once again, improving on their time from last year with a new time of 1 minute and 10 seconds.
Visit to Tallinn’s Turkish Ambassador
After, their success, the “EMU Crows” team was hosted by Tallinn’s Turkish Ambassador Hayriye Kumaşçıoğlu in her office. During the visit, Ambassador Kumaşçıoğlu congratulated the team for their success. The students were accompanied by Prof. Dr. Demirel who underlined that EMU is very happy about this important achievement.
